Air as Medicine: Discover the Ultimate Source of Fresh Air for Optimal Health (Deon Hall-Garriques)

I recently had the privilege of breathing 100% pure oxygen, medicine for my cells. You may be wondering to yourself, where on earth did she go to find 100% pure oxygen, does that really exist? Yes, it does and I did not have to leave this planet and you too can have that experience. In this blog, I am going to share my full experience with you.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), familiar? Most people are not. My husband and I were introduced to HBOT a few months ago by one of our medical doctors.

What is HBOT

HBOT is a medical treatment for many different health conditions. It involves breathing 100% pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber. The air we normally breathe only contains 19-21% oxygen. Under this pressurization, the lungs get more oxygen than would be possible breathing pure oxygen at normal air pressure which helps the body repair and enhance cellular function. Since your blood carries oxygen throughout the body, it helps fight bacteria and stimulates the release of growth factors and stem cells, promoting healing.

My husband and I took several sessions at Delaware Hyperbarics, an integrated healing center and while all the effects were not immediate, we felt light and energized at the end of each session. Depending on your reason for the treatment, you will be able to assess the results after. My husband had a medical procedure done so for him, his main motivation was to heal and speed up his recovery. For me, it was about improving the cells in my body and my overall health.

Benefits of HBOT

HBOT helps to:

  1. Balance and regulate inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines (certain chemicals in our bodies) production, reducing overall inflammation.

  2. Reduce swelling and edema in injured areas of the body.

  3. Heal nerve damage. Nerves need a large amount of oxygen in order to function optimally. When the nerves are damaged, there is usually damage to the circulation in the area as well. HBOT provides more oxygen to the nerves causing them to repair and heal.

  4. Maintain good microbes (microscopic organisms) and rid the body of the bad ones. We have more bacteria living in and on us, than cells in the body. These bacteria can affect our immune system, and digestion, and disrupt the communication between the gut and the brain.

  5. Increase circulation in the body.

  6. Increase the function of white blood cells because they use oxygen as fuel to fight infections and heal our bodies.

  7. Heal wounds

Common conditions that doctors recommend HBOT treatment include:

  • Concussions

  • Surgical recovery

  • Cardiovascular disease

  • Stroke

  • Arthritis

  • Chronic pain

  • Long Haul COVID-19

  • Lyme disease

  • Migraines

  • Attention Deficit Disorder

And more…

It should be noted that the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) recognizes certain insurance-covered conditions for HBOT (e.g., thermal burns, anemia, diabetically derived illnesses, radiation injury, etc.)

Cost of HBOT

HBOT treatment can range from $200 to $500 without insurance per session. A word of advice, don’t let the cost scare you because the benefits could outweigh the cost.
