Contrary to popular belief, calorie restriction diets are not good...

Most of us have been conditioned to believe that calorie restriction diets are the way to lose weight.

But I am here to tell you, it is not and this type of eating creates havoc on your hormones and can worsen hormonal symptoms and cause other health issues such as insulin resistance.

If you are trying to lose weight, do yourself a favor and leave all the low calorie, fat free, sugar free products behind.

Let me explain...

Calorie restriction will usually cause weight loss, but at a certain point, the weight loss will stop. Your body will require you to eat even fewer calories in order to lose weight.

Restricting calories causes your body to go into starvation mode...And your body thinks it needs to hold onto every calorie you eat because it isn’t sure when you’re going to feed it again. This causes your metabolism to slow down which means that every time you eat, your food will be stored as fat… even if you’re eating something super healthy like a salad.

Calorie restriction leads to stress and frustration… even if you don’t FEEL stressed, it’s putting your body in a state of stress. This causes your body to release more stress hormones (cortisol and adrenaline).

When cortisol is released that increases your blood glucose level. That in turn causes you to pump out more insulin. Increased stress increases cortisol and increased cortisol increases blood sugar.

Instead increase consumption of foods that will rev up your metabolism

Eating metabolism-boosting foods and spices like protein-rich foods, green tea, ginger, chili and cayenne pepper as well as apple cider vinegar.

Incorporating more foods containing healthy fats are essential in promoting weight loss, reducing weight gain, balancing hormones and boosting energy. Fats are necessary to create hormones, reduce inflammation, boost your metabolism and promote weight loss.

Some great sources of healthy fats include:

  • Coconut oil/milk/cream contains natural anti-bacterial and fat-burning effects.

  • Avocados have tremendous benefits such as reducing inflammation suppresses appetite, improving heart health and contains fiber and potassium.

  • Wild-caught salmon, one of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which helps to reduce inflammation.

  • Walnuts contain selenium and iodine and support hormone functions. Selenium helps to prevent goiter and swelling of the thyroids.
