Hacks for Gut Health
Drink room temperature water instead of ice water
Having cold water contracts your stomach and makes the digestive process more difficult. Additionally, it can cause the fats in foods to solidify or coagulate and therefore slows down digestion.
Choose avocado or coconut oil instead of refined vegetable oils
Avocado and coconut oils are excellent sources of monounsaturated healthy fats and coconut oil can promote healthy gut bacteria. Refined oils such as canola, corn and soybean oils are inflammatory oils.
Steam or roast your vegetables instead of consuming them raw
Steaming or roasting certain vegetables soften their fibers making them easier to digest than raw vegetables. Raw vegetables will take longer to break down and digest.
Switch to coconut or almond flour instead of processed conventional flours
Conventional flour usually contains gluten. Gluten is a group of proteins found in grains, including wheat, barley, and rye, and is difficult to break down during digestion. Coconut and almond flour are naturally gluten-free and can be more easily digested.
