You need to know this!
The menopausal journey includes 3 phases.
Perimenopause
Refers to the time when your body prepares for menopause.
Hormone levels (e.g., estrogen, progesterone) decrease, and your menstrual cycle becomes irregular.
It can last 4-10+ years. Some women experience a variety of symptoms, particularly as they get closer to menopause.
Menopause
It occurs when a woman has not had her period for 12 consecutive months.
The average age of menopause in the US is 51.
On average, Black and Latina women enter menopause two years earlier than white and Asian women. Menopause is usually associated with hot flashes, migraines, and other common symptoms.
Postmenopause
Occurs after a year without menstruation
For most women, menopause symptoms generally decline.
Some health challenges in this phase include cardiovascular disease, bone loss, and vaginal/sexual/urinary issues.
Check with your doctor to reduce the risk for other health conditions.
On the bright side, many women report this is the happiest time in their lives.
