Are you eating these foods regularly?

We live in a fast paced world where most of us lead very busy lives. Therefore, it is no surprise that fast foods and other ready to eat meals have gained so much popularity and profits for corporations. It is not uncommon to see families lined up at popular fast food restaurants getting their breakfast, lunch and dinners several times a week.

I will admit, fast foods are quick and convenient and save you the effort and time to prepare your own meals. However, this might not be the best option for your health in the long run especially if you are also feeding your children these foods. If you think about it, these are the eating habits that you are teaching your children and they are going to grow up thinking it is normal for them to have fast foods for breakfast, lunch and dinners. The bad thing is that these foods are defining the cells in your body and can create health challenges later in their lives.

Regularly eating this type of diet can lead to the following:

  • First, it is bad for your overall health particularly in the long run

  • Diminishes your body’s ability to respond to exercise according to new studies

  • Speeds up the aging process. Studies show that eating 3 or more servings per day of overly processed foods can decrease the length of the telomeres in your body. Telomeres are aging markers at a cellular level.

Cutting back on the sugars and processed foods will pay dividends in your later years in terms of your health and well-being. If you cannot cook, get a cookbook or search for recipes on the internet and start small. Start by preparing one or two meals at home and make it a family affair. It is so gratifying to prepare your own meals, knowing exactly what ingredients are included and making it to your individual preference.

As we start a new year, make a commitment to take control to reclaim your health before it is claimed by different illnesses.
