The Pursuit of Life Balance by Deon Hall Garriques

The journey of life is rarely linear but instead is a series of peaks and valleys. Along this journey, you'll experience success and setbacks, periods of happiness and challenge, and all these experiences help to shape you into who you are becoming or will become.

During this journey, you have a responsibility to yourself to maintain your health, strength, and balance in your life (self-care) so you can feel grounded and happy.

As you age, maintaining good health, improving strength, and achieving balance can become a significant challenge for most women.

Here are my 7 tips to empower and support you on your journey to better health, increased strength, and better balance in your life:
PRACTICE DAILY MOVEMENT

Our bodies are designed for motion and vitality. Discover activities that resonate with your spirit, bringing you happiness and a genuine sense of well-being, all the while ensuring that these choices are sustainable over the long term. As a reminder, a sedentary lifestyle can result in adverse health consequences in the future. Regular movement serves as an investment in your future health and wellness.

WHAT YOU EAT MATTERS

Think about how you take care of your car. Regular servicing and quality fuel are essential to ensure its engine operates at its best. Similarly, your body functions optimally when properly nourished. Just as good fuel enhances your car's performance, a wholesome diet fuels your body's performance."

PRIORITIZE SELF-CARE

Taking time to reset and refuel is necessary to keep you grounded and balanced. Practicing self-care can be as simple as taking a walk, reading a book, watching your favorite TV show, talking to a friend on the phone or just sitting and doing NOTHING.

Remember, you cannot give or support others effectively if your own 'cup' is empty. Ensuring your cup is brimming before extending yourself to others is important.

DOING OR PURSUING WORK THAT LIGHTS YOU UP

Many of us have goals and dreams that we want to pursue, but our circumstances or even self-sabotage can limit us from moving forward.

Part of cultivating a balanced life involves doing work that you love, even if it’s only for some time.

Perhaps you yearn to contribute to charitable causes, establish a nonprofit entity, initiate a business venture, or explore any endeavor your heart craves—take that bold leap and transform desires into reality.

I work a full-time job while pursuing my passion (women’s wellness coach) for helping women improve their health and find their balance. This work truly lights up my heart and soul, especially knowing that I am making a difference.

If you are reading this and deep in your soul you know you are meant to do more - pursue your passion, and live life with a deeper purpose, I want to encourage you to step into whatever sparks your enthusiasm and lights you up, even if it’s just taking that first step, and just keep taking small steps.

EMBRACING A SPIRITUAL PRACTICE

Having a spiritual practice as part of your wellness routine is essential which may look different for each person.

For some, it may be prayer, meditation, yoga, reading religious texts, or sitting in silence.

A spiritual practice helps to keep you centered and grounded, particularly during challenging times.

For me, yoga, meditation, and prayer are my preferred spiritual practices. Choose a practice that resonates and practice it consistently.

HARNESSING THE POWER OF JOURNALING

While journaling may be a very simple activity, doing it consistently has shown to have many health benefits. In fact, there have been numerous studies done that journals have health many benefits

If you are not currently journaling, I encourage you to just try it for about a week and watch what happens

A popular form of journaling is a gratitude journal.

CULTIVATING HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS

The relationships that you have in your life have an impact on your overall wellness, whether they are good or bad.

Positive relationships nourish and support your cells and your well-being while negative relationships can drain your energy, could be toxic, and wreak havoc on your health.

Evaluate all your relationships and nurture the ones that are supporting and loving. As for relationships that prove draining, establish boundaries or just remove them from your life if that is an option.
